Superbond SBR
Water-resistant Bonding Admixture for Cement Mixes

DESCRIPTION

Superbond SBR is a water-resistant bonding admixture consisting of Styrene Butadiene Copolymer Latex, which
is specially modified to be compatible with cement mixes. Superbond SBR improves greatly the chemical and water resistant properties of cementitious mixes.

TYPICAL APPLICATION

  • production of waterproof bonding slurry
  • production of floors and renders with high abrasion resistance.
  • production of high strength repair mortar.
  • production of high strength, thin-bed waterproofed adhesive for ceramic tiles.
  • production of floors and renders with good chemical resistance such as in effluent tanks, dairies, food factories, fertiliser stores, etc.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES

  • Possesses high water and chemical resistant properties.
  • Possesses excellent bonding to substrate.
  • Improves the bonding of subsequent finishes.
  • Reduces the possibility of cracks in the mortar.
  • Possesses high abrasion resistant property.

SPECIFYING

"Superbond SBR" should be specified by name and used as per application procedures below.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  • Surface Preparation
  1. The surface should be free of grease, oil, laitence, surface water and other contaminants.
  2. The surface should be pre-wetted with clean water before application.

  • As Bonding Slurry - high bonding strength
  1. Mix Superbond SBR with Portland cement at a rate of 1 part Superbond SBR to 1- 2 parts cement (by volume) depending on consistency required.
  2. Mix thoroughly until a lump-free homogenous mix is achieved.
  3. Brush the bonding slurry vigorously onto the substrate surface to approximately 1 mm thickness.
  4. Apply subsequent topping while the bonding slurry is still 'tacky'.
  • For plastering mortar with high water and chemical resistance.
  1. Apply a coat of Superbond SBR bonding slurry to the substrate surface as detailed above.
  2. Prepare the mix recommended below. Mix thoroughly until a lump-free homogenous mix is achieved.
  3. Apply the well mixed plaster to the primed surface at a thickness of approximately 6 to 10mm, while the bonding slurry still 'tacky'.
  4. Scratch the plaster and allow to dry for at least 6 hours.
  5. Apply a second layer of the plaster to the required thickness and trowelled to desired finished.
