Mortar Clean A
cleaning solution for cement and brickwork
surfaces
DESCRIPTION
Mortar Clean is a
strong cleaner for the removal of mortar and
cement stains from brickwork, paving, tiles and
ceramics.
It is useful for
removing soot and rust stains from brickwork as
well as efflorescence and other salt deposits on
any form of masonry and for cleaning cement
encrusted tools.
Cementone Mortar
Clean is very reactive in contact with calcium
silicate and coloured concrete and will dissolve
iron oxide pigments. We therefore suggest that a
small trial area be treated using Mortar Clean
diluted with water and should be examined
thoroughly before cleaning the whole area.
At no time should
undiluted Mortar Clean be allowed to come into
contact with calcium silicate or coloured
concrete bricks, concrete which contains
colouring or brickwork which contains coloured
mortar.
SPECIFYING
"Cementone Mortar
Clean" should be specified by name and used as
per application procedures above.
PRODUCT DATA
Physical Appearance
Water white liquid.
Specific Gravity
1.08±0.05.
Covering Capacity
Approximately 3 to 6 m2per litre
Packing
25 litre, 5 litre and 1 litre
plastic containers.
Storage
Store in a safe place
away
from children and animals.
The surfaced
to be cleaned should be thoroughly wetted first
to reduced the absorption of the chemical.
Cementone
Mortar Clean should then be applied either by
low pressure pneumatic spray or brush as
appropriate, scrubbing well into the surface
until the desired effect is produced.
Cementone
Mortar Clean may be used straight from the
container or diluted with water as conditions
dictate. Generally, a dilution of one part
Cementone Mortar Clean to one part water is
sufficient.
When in doubt,
use diluted solution first to test a small area
thus to ensure that the solution will not attack
the surface itself.
Cementone
Mortar Clean dissolves calcium carbonate based
products and therefore Terrazzo, Marble and
lime/Silicate bricks will actually dissolve if
treated.
A diluted solution (one part to four parts
water) may be tried in a small area, but extreme
caution is recommended on such surfaces. If
there is any indication that the test area is
being attacked, then wash off with copious
quantities of clean water and try a weaker
solution.
After every
application, the cleaned surface should be
washed down well with copious quantities of
clean water. Do not allow the surface to dry out
before washing off.
SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS
Cementone
Mortar Clean active ingredient is
classified as an irritant.
Cementone
Mortar Clean will attack ferrous and non-ferrous
metals, i.e. copper, galvanised iron and zinc
plate, stainless steel, anodised aluminum, fin
plate, mild steel and cast iron. The fumes from
Mortar clean can affect those metals and should
not be used internally unless they are protected
or removed.
Care should be
taken during storage to prevent any spillage or
seepage.
On no account
must Cementone Mortar Clean be mixed with any
other chemical, especially Chlorine or products
containing bleach.
Personal
Protection
When using Cementone Mortar Clean it is
advisable
to wear old or protective clothing and PVC or
rubber gloves and boots.
In some instances, i.e. spraying, brushing above

goggles or face visor is recommended. When used
indoors ensure adequate ventilation. When
diluted, the effects are minimised. Clothing
will become marked from splashes and nylon
material will dissolve.
Spillage
Drench with water. Neutralise with sodium
carbonate (soda ash) or bicarbonate soda
solution. Do not use metal container for spilled
liquid.
