Cementone No. 2 is
an integral liquid waterproofing admixture for
incorporation into concrete or cement
mixes to
reduce water permeability under hydrostatic
pressure, thus facilitates the construction of water
fight structure where aggressive water pressure is
present,
like, basement, water tanks, water
retaining or containing structure.
Cementone No. 2
Liquid is an alkaline soap of mixed fatty acids
compounded to a soft easily dispersed solution.
Cementone No. 2
Powder is based on a dispersion of a saturated
aliphatic carboxylic add reacted in-situ to form
a hydrophobic soap, the whole :being carried on the
surface of a siliceous flier, to aid ease of
dispersion into the cement mixes.
TYPICAL PROPERTIES
Initially
alkaline, has no corrosive effect on
reinforcement in mass concrete.
Is economic
and convenient to use.
Is water
repelling to reduce penetration.
Is water
retentive and thus aids cuing, ensuing maximum
strength.
Is as durable
as the mix into which it is
incorporated
Reduce attack
by water-borne aggressive conditions.
Help reduce
the formation of efflorescence and lime bloom by
restricting moisture movement.
Help reduce
crazing in rich mixtures by controlling rate of
water evaporation.
Readily
available in Liquid and Powder form.
SPECIFYING
"Cementone No. 2
Powder or Liquid" should be specified
by name and
used as per site work below.
APPLICATION
Cementone No. 2 may be used in any situation where
it
is necessary to construct Cement based sections
resistant to water pressure, e.g. retaining walls,
basement, footings (particularly in the presence of
aggressive ground water), floor and roof, swimming
pools and reservoirs.
They
may also be used to kill suction in backing coats,
and in this respect are particularly useful when
thin dragged-finish renderings are to be applied as
decoration.
Structures containing Cementone No. 2 may be
decorated by any conventional means including all Cementone decorative products. Structures containing
Cementone No. 2 are not vapour-proof and therefore
where applicable a suitable vapour-proof membrane
should be included.
Air
entraining plasticisers and accelerators should NOT
be incorporated into mixes containing Cementone No.
2 Integral Waterproofer. Do not over mix the cement
mixes incorporated with Cementone No. 2.
SITE
WORK
New brickwork to be
rendered should be left with raked mortar joints to
form a key.
Old brickwork,
concrete or rendering should be raked out or hacked;
existing plaster and decoration must be removed.
Make good loose areas of rendering and ensure
backing is clean.
To obtain maximum
adhesion, apply a spatter coat of a slurry composed
of 1 part ordinary Portland Cement, 1 part sand
gauged with a mixture of 1 part Cementone No. 8 to 8
parts of water. In situations where there is no
water pressure from the backing, a Cementone
Superbond SBR "Key Coat" maybe used as an
alternative to the spatter coat and hacking
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
Clean tools and other
equipment with kerosene.
SAFETY PRECAUTION
Avoid direct contact with eye and skin.
Wear gloves and goggles.
Wash skin or affected area with clean water.
Avoid ingestion.
Avoid naked flames/sparks and use in well
ventilated areas as Marlease contains volatile
solvents.
Waterproofing Structures against Ground Water
Pressure Rendering should be composed of 2'/2 to
3 parts clean and sharp sand conforming to BS
1199 to 1 part cement by volume. Add 2 litres
Cementone No. 2 Liquid or 4 kg Cementone No. 2
Powder per 100 kg cement and gauge the mix as
stiff as possible to minimise the risk of
cracking of this rich mix. Never apply a strong
mix on a weak backing. It will not normally be
necessary to add a mortar plasticiser to a
rendering containing Cementone No. 2 - Apply
renderings in two coats at a total thickness of
between 20 to 25 mm (approx. 3/4" to 1").
Roaring should be laid at a thickness of 35 to
38 mm (approx_ 1'/ ") and be composed of 1 part
Ordinary Portland Cement to 21/2 parts clean
sharp sand or 11 /2 parts clean sharp sand and 2
parts 10 to 12 mm (approx. 1/4" to 3/8") granite
or shingle aggregate. I litre of Cementone No. 2
liquid or 2 kg Cementone No. 2 Powder should be
added per 100 kg of cement and the mix should be
gauged dry.
SAFETY
AND PRECAUTIONS
Cementone No. 2 Liquid Alkaline liquid: Avoid
prolonged skin contact. See container for full
details. Cementone No. 2 Powder Prolonged exposure
to dust may cause some irritation as the material
contains rime.
It is
recommended therefore that the Powder be used in
well-ventilated conditions and that normal powder
handling precautions should be taken.
With
extensive handling in large quantities it is
recommended that a dust mask be worn, but for normal
usage this is unnecessary. See container for full
details.
